"Education should be equally devoted to enriching the personal lives of students and to training students to be productive workers."

Education is an important element in anybody's life. The importance lies in the fact that it teaches us to live and manage life itself. Ofcourse, one could live a life without a formal education but the chances that it would have quality are scarce. Living life just for the sake of it is meaningless. Again one could point out examples of people who made it big in the world without a formal education but these heroes had to struggle hard in 'not so healthy' conditions to see this day. It is because of this importance that education is considered a basic individual right and is taken up seriously by governments.

The education system prevalent today is as diverse as the human race itself. From a small village school in a poor country which runs in a tree shade to the huge and popular MIT, the education of different people is certainly not on the same table. Although this system is constantly improving, is it capable of delivering a sound education?? A small child who takes admission in a kindergarten, one spotless, shapeless mind; what do we intend to make out of it? Do we intend to produce individuals who will be able to get a job and raise a family or do we want people who will accelarate the development of their country. Or may be people with a better civic sense or what? I don't think there is a particular and specific answer to this, it is a hybrid of all of these and other things.

I came across an article which considered it better for humans to revert to very natural ways of living life, i.e to give up all inventions and live like other animals in harmony with nature. It observed it weird that humans invented a lot of things and now one takes some 20 odd years of his life in schools figuring out how to live the complex life playing around with them. Bizarre it is. But i would say, education makes it possible for one to grasp the wisdom of a thousand years in a 20. We do need to learn the techniques and procedures used to handle things and the laws that govern them. The huge number of engg. and technical training institutions depicts that we have come a long way in delivering our skill to the new gen. but how many of us find happiness and satisfaction in our life. This century has seen all time high stress levels among the working population and a surge in stress related health problems and yes violence & suicides. Hence the education system needs to evolve to help an individual manage his life as a whole. This includes the vocational skills, managing his personal and social affairs , spirituality and development of original and bright thinking.

The art of living schedules, etiquette and soft skill courses are being more and more integrated with the basic education. Also management studies have assumed a major role in the present education scenario. These steps are directed towards an all-round development of a person but again they are not readily available to all. Most of them are costly or appear with or after the graduate education when the individual has already lived a quarter of his life. Good education thus does wonders only for those who can afford it.

If we intend to promote good education as a basic right then it would not be possible unless the scientific and socio-personal education coalesce together to form a balanced integration. That the wholesome form is introduced right from kindergarten. Nothing is more embarassing when an educated individual breaks laws, creates violence or gives up his life under emotional stress. We must produce a generation which will know how to use the aquired knowledge in a productive way, how to deal with rising demands and how to solve their own problems. A race with roots of responsibility to reform and wings of independence to live their passions. The way i see it, this is the only way to ensure a healthy survival for our race.

great goin!!! but tell me this...is it really viable for all schools to teach stuff like moral sciences/soft skills that would help in enriching personal lives of the students?? wouldn't it be better to train the students into productive workers instead?? if we can conc all our energies in that area i think the personal lives will be taken care of automatically...the problem is that we are not able to train our students into pro workers in their domain of work. Think about it...we are trying to catch the problem by its tail, instead of its head

cmon..we had moral science classes in our school. Just that the stuff they taught in them cud have been a lot more better. And yes, the soft skill courses are a part of ultimately making a man productive and thats why i said it all has to merge into a single system. A productive guy would certainly be one i suppose, who is content with his personal life as well.

"productive guy=content with his personal life"

What does his personal life include? Family, friends, etc.

Now wat does the soft skill course teach us? How to behave better in our work environments, basic manners, confidence, communication skills, etc.
It is a part of our training to be better workers. How does it make the students' relationships better with their family members or friends? Education cant solve that completely. While it is necessary to impart some of that knowledge in the form of formal education, it cant be solved completely by education.

every one has unique issues in life. and education cant addr all of them. it is with exp and better sense that one must tackle these things.

So, I think that it would be better if edu were to be used primarily as a tool of training workers and occasionally teaching the importance of healthy personal relns.

my basic question remains this:

How can anyone enrich the personal lives of students?
And role will education play in it?

i never said a soft skill course will make u solve ur personal problems..i said it was one step towards making him productive. And as far as personal matters are concerned, yes the problems cud be very specific, but still education cud produce a guy who wud rather analyse his problems and do something about it than giving up. It is about creating ppl with a high EQ and right attitude.
